Customised Littersharks as visual highlights in Kapfenberg

In Kapfenberg, Austria, eight Littersharks customised with the municipality’s logo are helping to keep the streets clean.

When Kapfenberg set out to find a modern waste bin for its new shared space, the Littershark quickly emerged as the clear choice. From its appearance to its functionality, the Swiss design icon ticked every box for the Austrian municipality.

With its stylish stainless-steel body, the Littershark not only blends in perfectly with the existing planters and bike stands, but also remains firmly in place on the sloped paving in the city centre.

Eight 110-litre Littersharks with ashtrays have been keeping Kapfenberg clean since 2025, including four equipped with the Shark Dog. The bin’s large capacity and clever design mean fewer, more efficient collections – much to the delight of the local council.

‘The Littershark combines design and sustainability,’ says Stefan Weber, Head of the Municipal Service Centre. ‘It’s the apex predator of waste management,’ he adds with a smile. The municipality’s logo on its gleaming exterior fosters a sense of pride among residents and encourages them to use the bin more willingly.

In this way, the Littershark is helping to keep the streets clean in the centre of Kapfenberg.
