Salzburg is a stunningly beautiful city – it’s therefore no surprise that the Austrian metropolis attracts streams of tourists, especially on weekends and during the summer months. But these many visitors also generate a corresponding amount of waste, posing a serious challenge for the city council.
Managing the growing piles of rubbish required frequent collection runs and soon pushed the local street cleaning team to its limits. An efficient solution was needed – so Salzburg quickly adopted seven of our Solar Press-Sharks, which have been strategically positioned in the city’s main shopping district to keep the streets there clean and tidy.
These sleek stainless steel bins use solar power to compress the rubbish inside them, meaning they can hold multiple times the usual volume. Christian Bleibler, Salzburg’s road maintenance manager, is impressed: “If we didn’t have the Solar Press-Sharks, we would need to empty the bins almost continuously.”
