Four Solar Press-Sharks do what ten conventional bins could not: They keep Pfaffenhofen’s main square clean and also solve the problem of vandalism and animals rummaging through the rubbish.

The abundance of ice-cream cups and cats and crows rummaging through the rubbish made life difficult for Pfaffenhofen’s public services. Despite being emptied daily, the ten bins in the main square could not cope with the volume of waste and were regularly the subject of graffiti and vandalism.

After a demonstration by our Littersharks, the case was clear: Three Solar Press-Sharks were to do the job, plus our shark island, which precisely orchestrates and coordinates the required empty runs. First deployed in 2019, the trio will be joined by another Solar Press-Shark in 2023 to help mitigate the increased gastronomic offerings that also generate waste in the main square.

Vandalism has no chance against the robust stainless steel Littershark, nor do animals that like to rummage around in the bin for food. The result: a clean, spotless square, delighted residents and satisfied Pfaffenhofen Council, who always give our Littersharks the thumbs up!

Project Stadtwerke Pfaffenhofen

By using solar power to compact the waste and Shark Island to indicate when the bin needs emptying, the number of emptying trips was reduced to just two a week – and with fewer Sharks overall.

The Littershark is already a welcome sight in many towns and cities. You can find more exciting projects here.
