Now that Alex Giacomelli, Locarno’s municipal depot manager, has seen the benefits of the Littershark for himself, the waste bin will be rolled out across the whole town, with a target of 250 units in total. But that’s not all: Locarno is also planning to make its waste management operations fully digital in the near future.

There are many reasons to visit Locarno, be it Lake Maggiore, the pleasant temperatures, the sunny weather or the laid-back vibe. But the town’s popularity also means a lot of litter, which has been increasingly managed by Littershark waste bins since 2020.

What began with 50 units is being gradually expanded to 250 Littersharks. Locarno’s municipal depot manager, Alex Giacomelli, has been impressed by the ANTA SWISS team and their tailored advice that helped the town find the perfect model for its needs.

But that’s not all: Giacomelli is now also thinking about fully digitalising the waste management operations in Locarno, using the Littershark app and the NFC tags on the bins to improve maintenance and emptying.

This step would not only simplify the work of the municipal depot workers but also save a lot of time and, in the long run, a lot of money as well.

Project Locarno

The Littershark project is therefore in full swing in Locarno, and the reports and feedback on the new bins have been overwhelmingly positive.

«Using waste bins is a small act of kindness. It shows respect for our community and the environment» according to municipal depot manager Alex Giacomelli.
