For a long time, waste management in Kaiserslautern lacked structure: various litter bins and outdated systems made disposal and emptying more difficult. Municipal workers were on duty 365 days a year to cope with the large volume of waste and the constantly overflowing containers. There was clear potential for improvement. Thus, the decision was made and the German city was comprehensively brought up to scratch. An essential part of the project: a new waste management system with containers that not only visually enhance squares, streets and alleys, but also ensure easier handling and maintenance.

Kaiserslautern compared several systems – and ultimately chose the award-winning Littershark from Switzerland. Those responsible were won over by the quality and volume. As a result, various members of the Littershark family are not only enhancing the old town area, but are also being used in the redesign of the bus station and in the initial fit-out of the “New City Centre”.

All in all, 135 Littersharks with a capacity of 110 litres, each equipped with an ashtray and some with the Shark Dog, are swallowing up the waste generated across the city.

In especially busy places, the popular Solar Press-Sharks are also on hand, which, thanks to the sophisticated system, can handle even more waste without having to be emptied constantly.

Michael Gabel and Mario Diehl are delighted with their Littersharks. Due to the significantly larger volumes compared with the decommissioned bins, the emptying cycles have been greatly reduced. The Solar Press-Sharks are deployed in places with high footfall, where large volumes of waste are generated.

The difference is particularly striking in these locations, and the street cleaning staff are pleased with the time gained through the reduced disposal cycles and the resulting increase in efficiency. But the Littersharks are not just appreciated behind the scenes: thanks to their design, the smart new waste bins have been receiving plenty of praise from all sides.
