The rubbish collection service in Tulln was kept busy with overflowing waste bins, which had to be emptied up to three times a day. That is why they decided to introduce the Littershark system, which not only offers a larger capacity, but also robustness, easy maintenance and additional features such as an integrated ashtray.

The Donaulände is Tulln’s beautifully landscaped and ecologically maintained community garden. Idyllic picnic meadows invite people to linger, while comfortable seating areas offer relaxing views of the passing Danube.

Both residents and visitors to the Lower Austrian town value the Danube banks as a place of recreation – and the Tullner maintenance facility is a major contributor to this. Reliable waste disposal is essential to maintaining a well-kept environment – after all, where people spend their leisure time, rubbish is bound to accumulate. A disposal team had to empty the open bins on the banks of the Danube and in the city centre two or three times a day.

Reliable waste disposal is essential to ensure a well maintained environment in the long term.

Once the old open containers were full, a gust of wind was often enough to blow waste paper or empty beverage cans onto the pavement; birds foraging for food had the same effect. “If people are conscientious about using their bins, then the contents should stay in them,” according to Florian Pauser, Tulln’s maintenance facility manager. That is why the decision was made in 2017 to buy a total of 55 Littershark models in sizes ranging from 65 to 110 litres.

The new litter bins were installed in the city centre next to the Donaulände. While the open litter bins had a capacity of only 20 litres – since the installation of the Littershark bins with their increased capacity, the intervals between emptying are now longer. Instead of two or three rubbish collections, one trip is enough. What’s more, in addition to the larger capacity, the opening is too narrow for household waste bags, which often ended up in public bins.

The increased capacity of the Littershark bins alone has meant that the intervals between emptying have increased since they were installed.

What we also liked was the combination of the litter bin, ashtray and doggie bag dispenser in one – hardly any of the competitors have this.
