With its proximity to Lake Zurich, the municipality of Kilchberg attracts many visitors – especially in summer and on warm autumn evenings. But where there are people, there is rubbish – no wonder the local residents have been complaining about the amount of litter piling up in tourist areas, especially on the lakeside promenade in Bendlikon. Traditional 220-litre containers could not cope with the large number of visitors, so a new solution had to be found. The requirement: nice-looking litter bins that blend in with their surroundings, can hold enough waste on their own and do not dominate the public space despite their large capacity.

But there’s no problem that can’t be solved! Thanks to the wide range of products in the Littershark family, the right shark for Kilchberg was soon found. Our Solar Press-Sharks use solar power to compress the waste thrown in, which increases the volume of the shark. All the existing 220-litre bins in Kilchberg have therefore been replaced with new Solar Press-Sharks. But that’s not all: The municipality took the opportunity to take waste management a step further. Underfloor systems increase the capacity and reduce the number of emptying runs required. In addition, tags and Shark Eyes on the new Solar Press-Sharks and other containers help to optimise the timing of emptying runs, making them transparent and traceable.

The conventional containers with a capacity of 220 liters couldn't handle the influx with their volume, and a new solution was needed.

The switch from the 220-litre Littershark to the Solar Press-Shark has paid off, as the latter has quickly proved its worth in Kilchberg. Litter and overflowing bins are a thing of the past, and the volume of the new Solar Press-Sharks and their optimised locations now meet the needs of the municipality and its lakeside promenade. The lack of manpower and time constraints have been overcome with the introduction of the waste management system and its Shark Eyes. These have made it possible to organise the emptying runs more efficiently. Today, only those Littersharks that need to be emptied are actually emptied, which saves a lot of time. The employees have also quickly become accustomed to the new user-friendly system. All in all, the Zurich municipality of Kilchberg can now offer its residents and visitors clean public spaces again.

Today, only those waste bins that actually need to be emptied are being collected, significantly reducing the time and effort required.
