Summer and the beautiful weather draw sun-seekers outdoors. This was also the case in Pfaffenhofen, where the ten rubbish bins on the main square could not cope with the amount of waste produced during the warmer months of the year, especially at weekends. Even daily emptying of the bins could not cope with the mountain of waste. Particularly annoying were the ice-cream cups that were placed and stacked on top of the bins, which sooner or later ended up on the ground. Even worse: Crows during the day and cats at night rummaged through the rubbish and scattered it all over the main square. Clearly, a new solution was needed!

The Littershark comes into its own in situations like this. Its sloping top makes it impossible to pile up waste and its ingenious design prevents animals from getting in. Even vandals are put off by the sturdy steel bin. After a demonstration, Pfaffenhofen decided to replace its ten conventional litter bins on the main square with three Solar Press-Sharks and our shark island in 2019. Our intelligent waste management system quickly generated enthusiastic applause and benefits for everyone. By using solar power to compact the waste and Shark Island to indicate when the bin needs emptying, the number of emptying trips was reduced to just two a week – and with fewer Sharks overall.

By using solar power to compact the waste and Shark Island to indicate when the bin needs emptying, the number of emptying trips was reduced to just two a week – and with fewer Sharks overall.

In 2023, a fourth Solar Press-Shark joined the trio on Pfaffenhofen’s main square, as the expanded gastronomic offerings led to an increase in waste volumes. Since then, four of our Littersharks have been tackling the rubbish that accumulates and keeping the main square spotlessly clean. The residents of Pfaffenhofen are also happy with their new waste bins and use them much better than the cheap ones. Graffiti and vandalism are now a thing of the past, and the crows and cats now have other things to do. Stadtwerke Pfaffenhofen are so enthusiastic about their Solar Press-Sharks that they wanted to demonstrate the shark’s mode of operation and fill quantity live at their open house day. The result: amazed guests and completely satisfied faces.
