The City of Friedrichshafen – Underground bins on the lakeside promenade

What could be more delightful than a leisurely stroll along the lakeside promenade in Friedrichshafen on a sunny day? Lake Constance not only attracts people from the region, but crowds of sun-seekers from far and wide – and they all leave behind a corresponding amount of trash. The City of Friedrichshafen had long been aware that traditional bins did not stand a chance here.

However, the originally installed underground system had its drawbacks: groundwater, sand and gravel would constantly seep into the containers through holes in the corroded metal. And due to the containers’ angular design, vacuuming this debris out again was cumbersome and time-consuming. A rake was needed to loosen the waste that accumulated in certain spots, making it a tedious task. However, these challenges have now been overcome with the introduction of our new Abfallhai underground waste systems.

The round shape of our innovative underground system prevents waste from getting stuck in corners and makes vacuuming a breeze. And because we are the only manufacturer to offer this design, the City of Friedrichshafen quickly decided to replace its old containers with our stainless steel underground systems. However, these systems were not the only things that impressed the city’s decision-makers – to keep the lakeside promenade at Lake Constance clean and tidy, they also ordered our Abfallhai in various sizes ranging from 70 to 220 litres.

And the City of Friedrichshafen could not be happier with the Littersharks! They especially appreciate the quick and easy emptying process of our round containers, the durable disposal chute, and the fact that rust is now a thing of the past. With our new underground systems, it has been possible to reduce emptying to twice a week in summer and just once a week in winter. This is one of the main reasons why Friedrichshafen has decided to deploy even more systems from the Littershark family in the future.
